Microbial culture for ETP and STP plants in Nepal - Innovacorp

Microbial Culture for Nepal ETP and STP Plants — Aerobic and Anaerobic Consortia for BOD/COD Reduction

A biological treatment plant runs on bacteria. The bacteria in the aeration tank consume organic matter, and the plant converts that consumption into reduced BOD/COD and settled sludge. When the bacterial population is healthy, the plant runs. When it is not — after a shock load, a toxic discharge, or a seasonal temperature drop — the plant loses MLSS, the BOD/COD rises, and the effluent goes out of compliance. Innovacorp manufactures and supplies microbial culture for ETP and STP plants in Nepal — aerobic and anaerobic consortia for BOD/COD reduction, MLSS build-up and odour control — selected on the effluent type, not on a fixed catalogue. The culture supports the biology that already exists; it does not replace the aeration, the HRT or the plant design.

What Microbial Culture Does in a Treatment Plant

Microbial culture is the product that rebuilds the bacterial population when it has been knocked down. It is used in three situations:

  • After a shock load: A high-COD discharge or a toxic slug kills part of the biomass, and the plant needs a new population to recover. The culture adds active bacteria to rebuild the MLSS.
  • After a seasonal temperature drop: In the Terai winter, the biological activity slows down, and the plant may lose MLSS. The culture helps rebuild the population when the temperature returns.
  • After commissioning or a long shutdown: A new plant or a plant that has been offline needs a starting population. The culture seeds the aeration tank.

The culture is not a substitute for aeration or HRT. If the blowers are under-sized or the diffusers are fouled, the culture cannot perform. It is a support for the biology, used alongside the plant's operating discipline.

The Biological Treatment Cycle — Where Culture Fits

Stage What happens Culture role
Influent Organic load enters the plant. —
Aeration tank Bacteria consume organic matter. Culture adds active bacteria to rebuild MLSS.
MLSS / biomass Bacterial population stabilises. Culture supports MLSS build-up.
Secondary clarifier Sludge settles and is returned or wasted. —
Effluent Treated water leaves the plant. —

ETP vs STP — Different Consortia

ETP (industrial effluent) and STP (sewage) carry different organic loads and different microbial challenges. The consortium is selected accordingly.

Parameter ETP STP
Organic load High, variable, often with specific industrial compounds Moderate, more consistent
Consortium Selected for the specific effluent — food, textile, chemical Municipal sewage consortium
Typical use Industrial plants, sugar mills, distilleries, chemical units Hotels, hospitals, commercial complexes, residential townships

What Affects Culture Performance

  • HRT (Hydraulic Retention Time): The culture needs enough time in the aeration tank to consume the organic load. Short HRT limits performance.
  • Aeration: Aerobic bacteria need dissolved oxygen. If the blowers are under-sized or the diffusers are fouled, the culture cannot perform.
  • MLSS: The culture builds MLSS, but if the MLSS is being washed out faster than it is being built, the dose needs to be adjusted.
  • F/M ratio: Food-to-microorganism ratio. Shock loads raise the F/M and stress the biomass.
  • Temperature and pH: The culture has an operating window. Outside it, performance drops.

Specifications

Grade-wise technical data — appearance, CFU count, pH range, temperature range, application (aerobic or anaerobic) and shelf life — is shared as a TDS on request for the specific product under consideration. Final specification is confirmed against the product TDS before dispatch.

Dosage and Application Point

Dose depends on the plant capacity, the influent BOD/COD and the current MLSS, not a fixed figure per cubic metre. Working reference ranges for Nepal plants:

  • Aeration tank seeding: Set on the tank volume and the target MLSS — confirmed after a baseline wastewater analysis.
  • Recovery after a shock load: Higher dose for the first few days, then reduced as the MLSS stabilises.
  • Odour control: Dosed at the source of the odour — the aeration tank or the sludge handling area — set on the odour severity.

These are starting ranges. The working dose is confirmed from your wastewater analysis and the TDS for the product. Our team reviews the dosing plan with your plant operator before the first charge.

Packing

  • 25 kg HDPE bags (powder, standard)
  • 50 kg HDPE bags (powder, on request)
  • 35 kg HDPE carboys (liquid grades, standard)
  • 200 L HDPE drums (liquid grades)

Standard industrial packing; pack sizes on request.

Support from Wastewater Analysis to First Charge

For ETP and STP plants in Nepal — industrial plants, hotels, hospitals, commercial complexes — we review your wastewater analysis, go through the product selection with your plant operator, and review the dosing plan before the first charge. If the MLSS or the BOD/COD starts drifting, call us — we will look at the operating data with you. The defoamer page covers the foam side of the ETP, and the bulk industrial chemicals page covers the wider procurement side. TDS is shared on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which microbial culture does Innovacorp make for ETP and STP plants in Nepal?

Innovacorp manufactures aerobic and anaerobic microbial consortia for ETP and STP plants in Nepal. The consortium is selected on the effluent type — food, textile, chemical or municipal sewage — and the product is used for BOD/COD reduction and MLSS build-up. Product selection is confirmed after a wastewater analysis.

How does microbial culture help reduce BOD and COD?

The culture introduces a consortium of bacteria that degrade organic matter in the aeration tank. The rate of reduction depends on HRT, aeration, MLSS, F/M ratio and temperature. The dose and programme are set after a baseline wastewater analysis.

Is the microbial culture suitable for STPs in Kathmandu's commercial buildings?

Yes. Innovacorp supplies microbial culture for STPs in hotels, hospitals and commercial complexes in Kathmandu. The dose is set based on the STP capacity and the influent characteristics, and confirmed after a baseline analysis.

How should microbial culture be stored at a Nepal plant?

Store in the original container, in a cool, dry, ventilated area away from direct sunlight, moisture and heat. Keep the lid tight when not in use and follow the handling guidance on the TDS. Do not mix with other chemicals in the storage area.
